Artwork Attribution: “The Hand” (1968) was created to be a part of a series of pieces used to symbolize the Southern Christian Leadership Conference’s Poor People’s Campaign. Meant to point symbolically at the Capital on the National Mall during one of the campaign’s many Resurrection City encampments, the sculpture never made it to the Mall due to demolition of the encampment.  It currently resides outside the Carnegie Library in Mt. Vernon Square, Washington, DC.
